Track of the Day: Bebetta - Estival

Last weekend Monaberry’s newest release hit the shelves, ‘Herbert’s Best 06’. Monaberry, the imprint curated by the boys of Super Flu, is my absolute favorite label so I couldn’t resist featuring a track from the latest compilation. The new release features tracks from several Monaberry artists including Super Flu, Viktor Talking Machine, Robot Love, Martin Waslewski, Parra for Cuva, and the always groovy Hanne & Lore. The track that stands out the most is Bebetta’s ‘Estival’. ‘Estival’ is a light hearted track with a deep, heavy thump. It makes full use of strings and symbols to encourage that Scandinavian, Baltic Sea sound while the understated, almost delicate vocal sample lain over the synths form a beautiful breakdown section. Her style dabbles with tech and house while maintaining a playful air. Bebeta fits in perfectly with Felix and Mathias’s roster over at Monaberry. I hadn’t heard of Bebetta until this most recent release. I’m glad I found her. She may not be a household name in the United States but in Germany and across Europe she is blowing up. She began her adventure in 2008 and has since won the Tresor Newcomer Award, started Heimlich, Bebeta’s own party in her hometown of Bremen, and been released on a host of labels including Kallias, Damn Records, and We In The Box. Last year she was featured on trndmsk and played an absolutely magical set alongside Le Palf at Fusion Festival.For further Monaberry listening check out Hanne & Lore’s ‘Tuna In’ from the same release!
