Track of the Day: Basti Grub, Natch! & Dothen - Oh Baby Dance

basti grubI have to admit it was not easy picking a track I wanted to review from Millar's latest mix because they're all so different and really engaging. I settled on 'Oh Baby Dance' for the selfish nature of wanting to learn more about Basti Grub and his collaborators Natch & Dothen. This track is on a ton of DJ charts and reached #2 in Beatport's own Top Ten Tech House tracks so be expecting to hear it getting played out quite a bit.

Basti Grub, Natch! & Dothen - Oh Baby Dance

A subtle high pass filter layers over the top of double timed kick in the opening bars as a host of shakers and a heavily phased clap generate the rhythm. Once the filter flips off you can hear a sublime round kick bouncing forward as a delayed woodblock fills in some more of the higher registers of the percussion layer. A super cool ray gun FX pans in to provide some character to the arrangement while a hand drum loop enters the drum circle and a gated sweep provides for a nice transition. Snare pads are thrown in every few bars to give the rhythm some diversity and build nicely into a subtle drop that features an awesome horn stab leading into a collection of cool vocal samples. What I have yet to mention is the subtle muffled analog synth loop running underneath most of the track that rounds out a solid composition full of simple but effective transitions and deep tribal grooves.Deeperfect are definitely excited by the reception this release has gotten and Italian based label recently followed up with a new drop from Matt Sassari that features some deeper vibes in 'Shipibo' while 'Within to Me' doesn't mess about and get straight into some techno laden beats. The label boasts a healthy roster of releases from likes of our favorite Slovenian producer UMEK to Monika Kruse, Pan-Pot and Rampa and has been a staple for most European DJs tech and techno sets for several years.

Basti Grub live @ Ibiza Global Radio 03.09.15

Frankfurt based producer Bastri Grub has been on a rising path to recoginition for several years and has released across multiple genres and founder a few imprints of his own including Höhenregler Records and sub-label Geregelt; a tribute to dub-infused swing music. You can find his productions scattered across mainstays like Desolat, Cocoon, Compost, Cr2 records, Movida, and Get Physical with support legends like Sven Vath, Ricardo Villalobos and Loco Dice. This recent collaboration with Natch & Dothen is just another feather in Grub's long list of achievements and production roles of which we hope to hear much more from this year.

Natch! & Dothen - The Owl

Natch & Dothen seem to be relatively new as a duo and independently I haven't come across much material about either producer. They seem to keep things pretty minimal on the social profile front and really let their music speak for itself. No doubt after the success and widely received feedback on this release we will be hearing much more from these two.Enjoy this and other tracks from the Jacob Millar's latest Guest Mix:Enjoy,MR PUZL
