Track of the Day: 219 Boys - My Chicks

This week we welcome Audiophile Records artists Closed Caption into the LAMP studios for our weekly mix series. We will have more on them throughout the week as we review a couple of tracks from their mix and Mr. Puzl gets them to answer a few questions for us. Starting off our week of reviews is this one from their Doble Grande XXL Compilation released at the end of October. "My Chicks" by San Francisco natives 219 Boys is a fun UK Garage style bass heavy, whomping house jam. The track gets going with a nimble groove along with some interesting volcal FX and a faint rolling bass line. Some vibrant pads and stabbing synth are introduced in the first interlude of the track that opens the door for a the deep main vocal which pushes the track forward into the whomping bass line that takes over and drives the track like Mack Truck. Halfway through the track the 219 boys have some fun with the track chopping up the beat giving it a bit of a break beat feel. Ultimately they swing the groove back the original four on the floor banging beat that got it all started and ride that Mack truck of a bass line all the way home.This duo from the Bay Area have been on a pretty good pace this year. In the last year they have seen a multitude of releases with Mass Records, Nite Records, House Of Hustle, Fist Edition, Perfect Driver and their latest on Audiophile XXL. They are quickly making names for themselves after having worked together both literally and as a production team since they first met back in middle school. I say literally because the 219 in 219 Boys comes from their stint at their local Guitar Center which was store number 219. The duo comprised of Elric Weibel (AFTERPARTY) and Scott Holland (ScoHolla) both produced on their own but as a duo they have begun to achieve success that has gotten the attention of EDC's Discovery Project and seen them recently play at Insomniacs Beyond Wonderland. They also recently announced they will be taking part in AC Slater's Take The Night Tour opening for Alex Metric. It has been a huge year for them and it's just the beginning.
