Track of the Day: Yousef Feat. The Angel - Vanity (Rowee Remix)

This morning Crosstown Rebels released a new EP from Yousef. ‘Vanity EP’ offers one original track from Yousef the features vocals from longtime production partner The Angel as well as a whole slew of remixes from Bontan, Carl Cox, and Italian producer Rowee. Rowee’s remix caught my ear in particular. Rowee’s take on ‘Vanity’ offers an entirely distinct track while maintaining the bittersweet nature of the original mix. Where Yousef’s original is more of a high octane dance track, Rowee’s remix gives us a brooding tribal number that features tight percussion and expansive ambient soundscapes. Yousef said that “the song is about appreciation of what was once wonderful, it's about not having any regrets, positively exiting a situation with a coy smile, and looking forward to the next chapter of your life ..." Rowee’s take nails that feeling right on the head. When The Angel’s vocal track slips in at the tail end of the verses you can’t help but feel that conflicting sense of melancholy and hope. Beautiful tune!Rowee is the new alias of Italian DJ and producer Leonardo Gonnelli. Currently based in Florence, Gonnelli has released tracks for some of the biggest labels in across Europe including Poker Flat Recordings, Rebellion, and Seth Troxler’s Play it Say it. Gonnelli has had a monster of a year in 2017. ‘Vanity’ marks Gonnelli’s second release for Crosstown Rebels as Rowee this year while his track ‘She Likes It’, out last January on Deeperfect Records, peaked at #6 on Beatport’s Tech House chart. As a DJ, Gonnelli has graced the decks all over the world from Space Miami to BPM in Mexico to Dockyard Festival at ADE.
