Track of the Day: Tinlicker - Needle
Track of the Day: Tinlicker - Needle
This week we had the pleasure of having our good friend Emes in the studio to record for our weekly mix series. A gentleman who is constantly striving to learn and achieve new goals while pushing the boundaries of where music can go. Mr. PUZL had the chance to ask him a few questions which you can check out here, so we could gain a little insight on his mix and what he has been up to. Picking from Emes' track list for this weeks mix we stumbled across this brand new release from Tinlicker 'Needle'. A bouncing bass line along with stabbing chords and popping synth notes make up the main theme. As I sit here listening to the track I am impressed by the precision of mixing between the different instruments. It feels almost surgical how all of the different instruments and notes slice in at the exact right moments with the percussive elements. Starting off with sweeping pads and a plucky little synth, hints of the groove start to poke through as the intro builds to highly energetic and bouncy tech house floor filler. This is the type of track where, if the dance floor is a little empty or lacking in that certain pizazz, things will perk up real quick.First off thank you to Emes for picking these amazing dutch producers track for his mix this week. Had he not I fear I would have gone even longer without discovering this extremely talented Dutch duo. Just sitting here going through their catalog on Soundcloud and am completely beside myself. Absolutely loving their style of production and the quality behind it. I love the premise of the project these two have put together. As put forth by the duo "Deep in the bowels of a studio complex in Utrecht, NL, sits Tinlicker, a solitary robot, working his fingers to the core, intent on the creation of a new style and sound." Making their start out of Utrecht in 2012 the duo consisting of Micha Heyboer and Jordi van Achthoven have caught my attention for sure. Having squarely planted roots in the drum and bass scene Micha is also a part of the hugely successful Black Sun Empire. Taking a break from the 170 bpm lifestyle Tinlicker is a chance for him to step into a little bit different aspect of the music world.Jordi van Achthoven got his start with the music project Mike Luck. Working closely with Eskimo and Kitsune as well as Be Yourself Records. The two side projects could not be more different from each other. From the insanely fast paced grooves of Drum and Bass, Achthoven's style is on the opposite end of the spectrum. Ranging any where from 100-125 bpm his songs tend to have big sweeping synths and a much more deep house and melodic infused style with lots of ambience. A lot of his tracks feel like they could fit in real well with some of the beach style house we get here in Los Angeles. Together this duo compliment each other so well and I cant wait to here what comes next from these two.If you haven't had a chance yet make sure to check out today's track of the day in our Weekly Mix series this week put together by our good friend Emes.
