Track of the Day: 'You Spin Me' - Billy Kenny
You Spin Me - Billy Kenny
'You Spin Me' by Billy Kenny is a bass laden track that offers a new take on the style meshing deep and tech arrangements with that recognizable UK grit. Simplicity is key here. Everything from the percussions to the vocal cuts are used sparingly in the early stages of the song and provide room for an awesomely raw bass line that kicks in and takes over about half way through. It's so captivating that it takes hold of the song and transforms it into a manifestation of itself almost like a dark meets light battle is ensuing. Kenny is hailed as one of the most sought after producers and engineers in the House and Bass world and his work is a testament to that success.I first came across Billy Kenny via Low Steppa's label Simma Black and his collaboration with Maximono on 'Baby We'.Over nearly a decade this Leeds born producer has explored the sounds of Garage, House, Techno, Jungle to name a few. But usually we find his most exciting and prolific work within Bass and he has really made it his own. There is an absolute sense of versatility within Kenny's work and it has garnered him attention from some of the biggest names in the industry along with releases on Hed Kandi, Four40, Simma Black, This Ain't Bristol, Domino Effect. As the dance music landscapes continues to evolve at an exponential rate producers like Billy Kenny are rare and will certainly rise to the top. Not only is Kenny a phenomenal producer but he also has an incredible knack for finding new talent, and via his 'This Ain't Bristol' label he is beginning to reveal some pretty exciting music; much of which has found it's way into my mix for the week. For good measure here is an arsenal of Free Tracks from the extremely talented producer:Listen to this and other tracks on my latest mix for LAMP:Also in case you haven't seen it before, please watch this incredibly awesome music video of 'You Spin Me Round' by the Dead or Alive boys.Enjoy,MR PUZL
