Track of the Day: Pete Oak – Yama
Track of the Day: Pete Oak – Yama
This post is a bit overdue if you ask me. Pete Oak is on my count on one hand favorite producers at the moment. This track right here should be enough to get you going, hmmm who the heck is this guy? If you aren't already aware. 'Yama' recently released as part of a three track EP for Stil Vor Talent Records is a techno masterpiece that takes you on a journey for a solid eight and a half minutes. A driving groove grinds away in the background as Oak carries you in waves of synths and pads. Halfway through is when the magic begins as a bubbly synth arpeggio builds us up for a powerful drop back into the groove with even more massive synth and bass lines pumping away until Oak softly lets us down with some airy FX and a few pads.Recently I played the track above during a sunrise set on the beach in Baja, Mexico. The reaction from the people there was absolutely incredible. It was noting but grins from ear to ear. It is pretty much how I feel every time now I see new Pete Oak music. Lately I have been smiling quite a bit. The EP from today's track of the day as well as the EP from Sincopat above are both recent releases. In addition he has another with Polymath that came out in June. I am pretty sure my first exposure to him was with the stuff he was doing with Steyeyoke Records. A label on which he has several incredible productions.Ever since he first came on the scene in 2012 Pete Oak has been garnering much attention. With multiple releases for Oliver Koletzki's Stil Vor Talent, Sinicopat and Steyeyoke just being the tip of this producers iceberg. One of my favorite tunes from him comes from the Parquet label titled 'Synesthesia'. Additionally he has some killer stuff on Suara, Definitive, Blindfold, and Toolroom to rattle off a couple. I eagerly await the next thing from this amazing producer from Denmark. He is just getting started and I am so happy to have caught him at the beginning of what is to most certainly be a special career. As it says in his bio "The music describes exactly what words can never achieve". so instead of me rambling on here you go. Enjoy.
