Track of the Day: KANT - Breathless
The Danish music philosopher KANT returns to the Katermukke label with his brand new Syne EP. Released a few days ago I was grabbed by "Expedite" and then blown away by the vocal work in "Syne". I was pulled even further into this incredible EP with 'Breathless". A soft kick and some punchy toms kick of the groove while a vox works, stretching and pulling, creating tension in the mix while a low droning synth softly builds in the background. At its climax KANT introduces some bellowing horns that are accompanied by a booming sub bass line which play with each other very nicely in a sort of call and response fashion. Having followed KANT for several years of his more than 10 year career I feel it is safe to say that this Danish producers ability transcends house music. One minute he is making floorfillers for Toolroom and more main stream club hits like "Nightcall" for Black Butter or his "One In A Million" Remix for Midnight to Monaco. Here we have more late night Berlin Techno and Tech house style productions and it just goes to show that even though it wasn't his intention with his name "Kant" (which is Danish for "edgy") he truly is a philosopher of music. Check out more of what I am talking about below.
