Track of the Day feat. Tiger Stripes, Pleasurekraft & Marzenit
Well, hello there. I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Jeff Devoe and I’ve been blessed with being added to the LAMP roster. To get things kicked off right with LAMP I’ve done a new dj mix that will be dropping at the end of the work week here on our website. I’m pretty excited about it, so I wanted to do a little peep show for you all featuring some of the jams I was able to stuff into the mix. I’m a big fan of mixing a lot of styles with whatever genre I’m playing with. I mean it’s the 2000’s and diversity is a beautiful thing. Wouldn’t you agree? So without further ado, let’s check out some of these diverse selections that you’ll be tasting on Friday when my mix drops!
Cajmere & Dajae – Satisfy (Tiger Stripes & Pleasurekraft Remix)
This tune…is just magic. The original is a great minimal, bouncy ride with it’s bubbly 808 tom basslines and great vocals from Dajae (who has done many a track with Cajmere over the years). The Tiger Stripes & Pleasurekraft remix really takes the original to outer space. Not a nice, sterile international space station though. This place is a dirty space pirate outpost on the back of the Moon, in a very good way. For me Tiger Stripes does fantastic minimal techno inspired house and Pleasurekraft are kings of heavy bass, beats, and arrangement. It seems they’ve found a way to include both of these talents into the Satisfy remix. They use Dajae’s rap as the hook for the remix and sprinkle in detuned layers to make her sound like an alien bar maid. The drums keep their original bouncy feel, but with a bit more drive provided by the shimmering percussion shakers. After the drop these elements all get tied together by a wobbly, distorted bassline that sings back at Dajae in a great call and response pattern. Technical explanations out of the way, this tune is hot and is definitely going to be burning a hole in my record box for a while.
Marc Marzenit – Fictional Crossover
Honestly, before I sat down to search for the tracks for my new mix I’d never heard of Marc Marzenit. So glad I came upon him though. He’s got some amazing music that straddles the borders of tech house, progressive house and techno. Really unique stuff! Fictional Crossover was released on the recent Bedrock Records Underground Ibiza compilation, and was the first song on the Clubside/Night time CD from it. The tune starts with a very dark textured sound undulating about your head. Really puts me into early 80’s horror flick mode. The texture breaks and the relentless hi-hats lend energy to the track. Off-beat synthy stabs, arpeggios, and dancing violins slowly layer themselves to build a crescendo of sound in the break that puts you on your toes till the beat drops and releases the pressure. It does this a couple more times; each time with subtle and wonderful nuances that makes you want to keep listening. Fictional Crossover is a great segway between tech house and progressive house as it does both really well. I’m excited to have discovered Marzenit and if you haven’t yet, then now is the time to do it!Jeff Devoe
