Track of the Day feat. Calippo and Smash TV
It's was a long weekend to say the least, but my first Outside Lands was a memorable experience. Flume, Capital Cities, Atmosphere, Holy Ghost! and Chromeo had some of the best sets and the setting in Golden Gate park is amazing. Anyway slowly recovering but finally getting it done I've got some cool tracks to share with you. Today I'm featuring 2 tunes from Calippo and cool original from Smash TV.
Need a Friend - Calippo
A friend of mine was working on a mix a few weeks back and dropped some tracks in to my Rekordbox to get analyzed. A few weeks later I went back through them and this tune caught my attention. This track come off of the EP "Taking Over" released on famed Enormous Tunes label. The track opens with a nice piano house build with those classic synth builds, and then drops into a amazing deep uk house vibe (as their tags on the SC track suggest, lots of influence from MK, Detroit Swindle and Pleasurekraft on this one). The break down around 2:20 is an awesome opportunity to play with some filters, even though it already has a good amount of echo in there already...be creative!
Rainmaker - Smash TV
When I first listened to this track I was really curious where the build at the beginning was going to take me. It has a really nice sort of old techno feel to it, and it's actually great to mix in and out of other tracks because of it's simplicity. I've reviewed a few other tracks by these fellas in the past, and always keep a watchful eye on what their up to.
Over and Over - Calippo
This track comes from the EP "Back There" also released on Enormous Tunes and has more of that solid UK House driving throughout the song. I unfortunately haven't been able to uncover much about this artist apart from the fact he's from Geneva, Switzerland and very close ties to the Enormous Tunes imprint. So maybe I'll just have shoot him an email and find out for myself!Enjoy,MR PUZL
