Track of the Day: DJ Dharma 900 - If You Really Want It
In honor of the increasingly summer-y vibes here in LA, today’s LAMP track of the day is a pool-party disco bomb direct from seasoned producer, expert mix practitioner, and Kuudos label boss DJ Dharma 9000, AKA Martin Terrell.Brighton-based, Terrell has been producing and DJ-ing since the mid-90’s under aliases “The Delorme” & “Dharma bums.” His pedigree includes releases on Zoom records in London, as well as production duties on various remixes for Stress records, DMC and others, including Kathy Brown’s notable vocal house anthem “Turn Me Out.”After a 10-year break from working in the music industry, he got inspired to start again, having crossed paths with up-and-coming producer Studio Cross. Terrell is now releasing tracks as Dj Dharma 900 & B.O.P. on his label, Kuudos, where he also continues to turn out a string of deep lo-fi house/disco DJ sets.“If You Really Want It” kicks off as track one of Dharma’s aptly-named April 6th release, “Sleazy Disco Vol. 1.” A comprehensive panel of peer-reviewed studies have unanimously concluded it is physically and practically impossible to resist moving to the groove of the horn section on this track. A tight rhythm section, spritely Telecaster stabs, and a smooth filtered Rhodes line tie the piece together and ensure the pocket is dialed. From the man himself: “DJing is an expression of my mind and soul... I live and breathe music, it's a spiritual thing it's a house thing!!!”We hear ya Martin! Big love from us here at LAMP for keeping the sleaze alive. You can check out Sleazy Disco Vol. 1., out now on @kuudos.
