Cop A Feeling - Ryan Mathiesen

"Cop a Feeling" by Ryan Mathiesen is a wonderful blend of house beats, funky rythms and soulful vocals samples. As for the title of the track I'm not entirely sure if it's supposed to be a play on the vocal sample used from the James Brown song "I Got The Feelin'". Specifically, "cop a feelin" has a different meaning relating more to the sensation of physical touch in a sensual way. Either way the track certainly envokes some awesome good feeling vibes and is perfect for those slow grooving daytime sets. The track opens up with the recognizable James Brown vocal with a soft kick and crash combo intertwined with an awesome loop of a heavy plucked bass guitar string. As the intro builds we get a push in the vocal gain and an introduction of more percussion arrangements and (my personal favorite) some funky jazz sax and horn cuts. As the song progresses it slowly reveals more samples, including a great little piano stab and longer vocal cuts. This is truly a well crafted tune that doesn't overdo the James Brown effect that some house tracks often get carried away with. This is some awesome compilation footage with the legend JB's audio "I Got a Feelin'" playing in the background:Also part of the production duo Jane Daar, Ryan Mathiesen lives happily in a space where definition of his style and music genre affiliations are loose and at best undefinable. His RA profile certainly puts up a front of not worrying to much about self description and warns off of attempts of classification that would pigeonhole him into a group."Born in Vancouver.... Now lives in Berlin and collects records, makes music and writes lyrics. Likes too much different music to start to describe and define." - RARyan Mathiesen first started composing music in 2006 developing unique infusions of classic rock and disco into his productions. Another product of the Stil Vor Talent tribe he has also released under labels such as Dantze and Igloo Records. If you want to truly understand the breadth of this DJ track selection just have a listen to this Classic Rock Special he made last year:Enjoy,MR PUZL
