Track of the Day: Binaryh - Identity
Track of the Day: Binaryh - Identity
Taking things back over from MR PUZL who kept things on lock while I was getting all dusty and stuff. I had a blast out at the Burn this year and when all was said and done I wound up getting behind the decks 7 different times for 6 different camps. The highlights included going b2b with DR. Fresch at Boogaloo, Opening for Sacha Robotti and DJ Dan on Charlie the Unicorn, Kicking off the Tuesday night on Forest Art Car and prob my favorite was getting to play two extended sets on the Thor Art Car including a 4.5hr set on Burn night. Those extended sets gave me a great opportunity to really dive deep into some of my tech house and deep tech libraries. One label that I would tend to go to every so often as we do here at LAMP is Steyoyoke. The reactions from the people on the playa when I would drop songs from their label was great to see. In one particular instance I remember playing a track 'Vortex' by Aayron & Animal Picnic and an entire group riding by on bikes literally stopped in their tracks and danced for about 10 minutes before moving on. As is the way of the playa. While I was out there Steyoyoke Black which is responsible for 'Vortex' put out the debut release for producer team Binaryh. I can only imagine how stoked this duo must be to have their first release, not only with one of the finest labels for deep techno, but also to be featured very prominently on beatport next to some amazing artists and producers. Starting off with a low droning sub bass and punchy kick 'Identity' is very progressive in nature. Adding in bits and pieces to the mix, the track gradually builds in energy and pace. The deep brooding sub bass combined with the arpeggiating synth plucking its way through the mix, give the song a driving, almost running man feel to the groove. I love the late 80's early 90's rave tone to that arpeggiated synth. It's not quite acid but it has a little bit of that feel to it. From the get go 'Identity' is a high octane floor filler besides a brief moment in the middle of the track when the synths take on an ethereal tone giving the listener a brief respite right before Binaryh drop the groove back into the mix and push the track back into high gear through to the end. I wish I'd had this weapon to drop on the playa this year but there is always next year. By then I am sure Binaryh will have had several more releases for me to collect as well. Check out the other track in this release as well and go pick it up on beatport if you dig and show these two some love. This week we have an amazing guest mix from Dutch duo ANEK as well. If you haven't had a chance to listen yet you can check that out below. Enjoy.
