Track of the Day: Bas Roos - Midnight People
Track of the Day: Bas Roos - Midnight People
We may have just pulled off our own version of Brexit after yesterdays happenings. At least we still have great music to help us forget the ridiculousness of last night. Shir Khan and Exploited Records have always been favorites here at LAMP. In a couple of days we will welcome Exploited artists CLAAP & Santana to a dope little warehouse spot here in Los Angeles. Recently the label released a sampler pack of some new tracks for the 16th volume of their 'Black Jukebox' series. One of those tracks that has really helped me get back on track today is 'Midnight People' by Bas Roos. Kicking of with a chunky beat the groove has a vintage and soulful rhythm. Constant whistles and crowd noise in the background give me sensation of sitting in the middle of a smokey club during of beginnings of the house movements in Chicago and New York. A soft piano line works its way through the mix adding to that classic vibe while some interesting synth stabs keep the track feeling fresh and vibrant. A great example of old meets new from this relatively new Dutch producer.Exploited seems to be where Roos is finding his way having also released this great little house jam earlier this year along with one other for Vol. 14 of 'Black Jukebox'. In addition he also has releases out on PIV Records that I was able to come across. Based out of Amsterdam he got started as a DJ at 16 years old. Not sure how old he is today but judging off his picture not much older than that. Either that or he has some incredible genetics. He is garnering attention from many of the top names in house today and looks to be on a pretty fast path to becoming a well known name in the house music world. Make sure to check out more on his page if you are into his sound. If you dig the Exploited sound make sure to come check out our event this Friday at one of our favorite Downtown warehouse spaces. We will have CLAAP and Santana along with Rock It Science Labs and LAMP artist throught out the night until the early morning. Hit the flyer below for more info. We still have a few $10 tickets available.
