LAMP Weekly Mix #270 feat. partywithray
Today we’ve got a fresh mix from one of the newest and most exciting artists on our roster. Partywithray has exploded onto the scene with two killer remixes coming out over the past few months and an official release slated on our upcoming SPECTRUMS Volume 3 compilation releasing this month. In addition he’s been burning up SoCal dance floors and expanding his influence outside of LA as he heads to Colorado later this month for two nights alongside iconic super producer ZHU at Belly Up in Aspen.[embed]https://soundcloud.com/lamp/lamp-weekly-mix-270-feat-partywithray[/embed]For his guest mix debut partywithray delivers a flurry of booty shaking house tunes including some of his own unreleased material. Like any of his live performances, Ray’s mix is nothing but stylish and energetic from start to finish. This week Ray took the time too sit down with our own Damon Steele for insight into his musical background and exciting forthcoming projects.Damon Steele: For your debut LAMP Weekly mix, what was the vibe you were trying to encapsulate with your track selection? partywithray: I was coming off a big weekend of party sets – Friday night was a basement show that got hot and sweaty, and Saturday I played a late set with ZHU at a warehouse spot which got rowdy. I was definitely still riding that wave when I recorded the mix!DS: You’re a pretty fresh face on the LA house music scene but I understand you have an extensive musical background besides your current work as producer and DJ. Can you tell us a little bit about that background?R: I started playing drums when I was 13 and started playing guitar, singing, and writing songs when I was 15. I was in a band as a singer for years and we got to have some amazing experiences – there were a lot of highlights but I love festivals more than anything so getting to play the main stage at Voodoo Festival a few hours before Neil Young was special.DS: Can you tell us a little bit about who Ray is as an artist and some of the things that inspire his music and style?R: Ray is the party you never want to leave :)DS: I understand you have some shows coming up in Colorado alongside a little known artist by the name of ZHU. Can you tell us a bit about how your friendship with ZHU started and if fans can expect any other collaborative efforts from you two?R: ZHU and I met at a party years ago. We’ve been sharing music and hanging in the studio ever since but our musical styles really coming together is more recent. We’ve been working and testing out tracks a little bit in sets and the response has been amazing. I’m really excited for the project to come out!DS: For those who have never seen a partywithray show, can you tell us what fans can expect from your performances?R: I get up there to vibe, ride and capture the energy of all of us who are in the room together. We’re gonna party and we’re gonna look good and we’re gonna feel good!DS: Speaking of shows, you’ve masterminded a new event series in Echo Park called Side2Side. Can you tell us a bit about that party and what makes its vibe unique?R: Dude! S2S is the viiiibe. Myself and a few other very talented up-and-coming DJ/producer’s (including a few LAMP homies) wanted to throw a deep, disco, and tech house party that was really about creating a house party (like a house house lol) vibe. We love good music but mostly we love to have a good time. We had so many friends, house music fans, and talented homies from the dance community at the last show. I’m stokedddd for March 29.DS: From what we’ve heard so far it sounds like the party has just begun! What can we expect to hear next from partywithray?R: I’ve got a lot coming next. We really are just getting started! Next month my first original is coming out on SPECTRUMS Vol. 3. Let’s go.TRACKLIST:1. Dirty (unreleased) - partywithray2.
