LAMP Weekly Mix #116 feat. GAL

Happy to present to you this weeks guest mix artist GAL. One of LA's up and coming Techno artists that has an undying love and appreciation for the art of DJing and everything House and Techno. Her travels across the globe have contributed to her unique style and ability. I personally have spent countless hours with her practicing in the studio between DJ and production sessions and know her passion first hand. With many musical ventures under her belt and a heritage deeply rooted in music we are expecting many more great things from GAL in the future. For now enjoy her mix and get to know her a little better with the interview posted below. Track List is at the bottom as well.PZB: You have many musical aspects to your life; from some of your earlier music projects, a couple of different bands you were a part of, as well as your Bass playing ability. Tell us about them and how they have shaped who you are as a musician today and going forward into the future. GAL: I started playing instruments from a very early age, at the time I decided to become a dancer which had a tremendous influence on my life and understanding the deeply rooted relationship between music, our bodies and souls. Playing bass has been a very big part of it all as well and continues to be through the music I play and produce, those so called deep "dark" sounds that characterize my music are the manifesto of the sounds that make me the happiest GAL. PZB: You have lived in a few different countries growing up and into adulthood. Do you find that those experiences of varying cultures growing up impacted the type of music you are trying to make. Tell us a bit about where you have been and what impact it has on your time in the studio when you are making music. GAL: I was born in Mexico City and raised in Israel then moved to New York, Miami, Alaska, Chicago and now Los Angeles is what I proudly call home.Every single one of my travels, surroundings and they're culture sets the tone to the journey I want to take my audience on.PZB: You have a wide yet refined taste in electronic music with a particular penchant for the House and Techno genres, especially dark melodic techno. What was it about the techno scene made you gravitate towards it? What were some styles/genres that you were listening to early on? GAL: I come from a lineage of classical musicians and growing up so involved in such a gnarly world of sounds definitely plays a role in my taste in music. My grandfather and my mom are my biggest influences in music, he played first violin for the symphonic orchestra and my mom plays the transversal flute both very powerful instruments. In my opinion classical and electronic music are so similar and complex and it takes me to the most intoxicating places that is probably the reason why I am so attracted to it. PZB: For most people out there this is their first exposure to GAL. We got see you spin some proper tunes at a few of our desert LAMPing events. How would you describe your style to a new audience? Who are some artists and labels you are subscribing to these days? GAL: I'd like to describe my style as deep tech sometimes with a bit of a twist depending on the state of mind. Here are some of my many many faves.SCI+ TECCuttin HeadzMood RecordsCrosstown RebelsSuaraKompaktDefinitive recordingsNoir MusicPZB: So when we asked you to put this together for us you were literally on your way to Miami for another Miami Music Week. I haven’t been since 2001 and I know you go almost every year and have a few gigs out there. Would you say Miami Music Week has changed much over the years and what is it about Miami Music week that draws you to it other than the opportunity to play? GAL: Every year Miami grows a bit more and with that there's been an explosion of venues and neighborhoods that have been shaping Miami Music Week to one of the most anticipated times of the year for me. I love discovering and meeting new talent and all the beautiful souls that gather to listen to it and of course getting the chance to reunite with all my fellow producers and DJ friends I haven't seen in a long time. It's a riot!PZB: People are always asking me about your name and if your Israeli and Im always like no she’s Mexican. To which I usually get confused look on their face. It is a bit fun for me because I already know but explain for everyone else the origins of your stage name GAL. GAL: Here it goes...GAL is my last name.I was born in Mexico City but my heritage is Turkish, Israeli, Polish and Ukranian so basically the only Mexican part in my body is a little bit of my heart and my stomach haha.PZB: You have been working really hard in the studio the past few months and recently shared with us your new track B€HEMA Whats on the horizon any other new tracks coming up soon? GAL: I finally have the chance to get back in the studio this week and continue working on an EP that I will hopefully be releasing soon.As for the horizons.. stay tuned.PZB: OK Last one since you just returned from Miami Music Week lets work that angle. Budget is of no concern you have free reign to choose any venue day or night and program 8 hours of music. What venue in Miami would you choose and what would your line up entail. GAL: Venue - The NationalDaytime Pool PartyLine up not in any particular orderBy far the hardest question for me to answer with such ridiculous amounts of talent in the planet.ShadedOlivier GiacomottoGerman BriganteTrent CantrelleDamian LazarusAmbivalentDubfire
