Track of the Day: Weska – Say To Me
With the passing of Labor Day and the unofficial ending of the summer the parties are starting to move back indoors. Unless you are in LA, then pool party season never really ends. I was having a conversation with a friend of mine yesterday in regards to where to find some really good techno. Four to the floor, late night 4am warehouse, no holds barred serious techno. Some labels that come to mind are Drumcode, Tronic, Minus, and Ruktions to name a few. One other that you can not leave out of the mix is Octopus Recordings. Based out of Barcelona and headed up by Sian the label has been pumping out a slew of incredible works recently.
Weska a newcomer from the Toronto scene is responsible for our Track of the Day today. Released a few days ago his EP ‘Say To Me’ consisting of 3 tracks is exactly what you need if you are in the mood for some kick ass, pounding, well organized, chaos. The title track starts off with a nice booming kick/snare groove that quickly builds and subtly layers in new elements to really drive the track along. Weska does an incredible job chopping and slicing the vocal into the mix using it more as an added instrument giving the driving techno beat a human touch. The driving style and chord stab Weska uses throughout the track in conjunction with the vocal reminds me a bit of Tiesto’s ‘Flight 643’. More the last half than the first but if you listen to it you will get an idea of what I’m talking about. The groove is relentless in this track. If you are on your feet you cant help but start to move your feet and if your sitting you will feel compelled to get up almost immediately. The rest of the EP is pretty spot on too. Make sure to check out more from Weska below as well as the rest of Octopus Recordings if you are in the mood for some wall shaking techno.
