Today’s track of the day selection comes to us from a legendary producer and songwriter and one of our favorite Los Angeles residents. Those who have spent much time in the LA dance music community likely know him as Orlando but to his millions of fans around the world he goes by T.E.E.D. or Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. After a long hiatus from releasing original work, T.E.E.D. has finally returned to the airwaves in 2018 with two brand new singles titled “Leave a Light On” and “Don’t Forget About Me”. The latter released today on his imprint Nice Age.
“Don’t Forget About Me” starts off as a euphoric and emotional ballad, as a layered vocal choir harmonizes in repetition to T.E.E.D.’s characteristically cathartic opening verse. The track begins to build in energy as T.E.E.D.’s vocals are accompanied by heavily detuned synth layers, before dropping back into another tranquil but somber verse section. The track builds for a final time, as the previous synth layers are stacked with heavily distorted electric guitar solos and arpeggios. The final drop flips the script on the previous sections and takes the track into a funky and soulful r&b-inspired beat section. The final section feels warmly reminiscent of some of Childish Gambino’s recent work and offers up a new dimension to T.E.E.D.’s already iconic sound.
For someone like myself who’s followed T.E.E.D.closely since 2010, it’s exciting to hear him return to form with some amazing new music. With his inimitable production ability and incredible vocal performances on these latest releases, it’s guaranteed that fans won’t be forgetting about T.E.E.D. any time soon.
