Track of the Day: Kristin Velvet – Skylar

Today I thought we would go with a tune from one of our special guests for this Saturday’s PUZL Records 1 year anniversary party. At the end of March Kristin Velvet released her two track ‘Skylar Awake EP’ on her home imprint, Arms & Legs. The EP’s first track, ‘Skylar’, is a bouncy tech house track with a healthy dose of groove. I love the way Velvet chops up that whispered vocal sample… you can’t help but “tap your shoes.” But it’s the drop after that second breakdown that really gets me. She brings that bass run back for a measure before throwing that bouncy stab down again. It is a quick moment but the subdued energy is a nice contrast to the rest of the track. Great stuff!

Kristin Velvet was born and raised in the Australian outback before moving to Berlin to pursue her passion of DJ’ing and producing. It is interesting to note that while Velvet has played in clubs around the world from Tokyo and Australia to France and Berlin, her entire catalog (to date that is 9 EP’s) is out on Arms & Legs. That says something about the creative working environment that Daniel Steinberg and Nils Ohrmann have fostered with their outfit. Velvet’s music has seen significant support from Maya Jane Coles, who dropped two of Velvet’s tunes on her 2015 BBC Essential Mix and, more recently, included ‘Skylar’ on her ‘Cherry Bombs’ chart just last month.

On more of a promotional note, we still have pre-sales available for Saturday’s PUZL Records 1 year anniversary so make sure to buy in advance to save hassle at the door! It’s going to be an action packed night of stellar music headlined by Lonely Boy with special guests Daniel Steinberg and Kristin Velvet from Arms & Legs and the PUZL Records crew!
