Track of the Day: Hoodboi – Breathing Room

Today’s Track of the Day comes to us from LA based DJ and producer Hoodboi. The track is called “Breathing Room” and it serves as the title track and opener to his new E.P. under the same name. Hoodboi initially arrived on the Los Angeles electronic music scene as a founding member of the eminent artist collective Team Supreme in 2011. Shortly afterward, he garnered an international following through his energetic club edits and original tracks that helped pioneer the sounds of Trap, Future Bass, and Jersey Club. After some time away from releasing music, Hoodboi returns to the limelight with a bang, bringing with him a brand new sound and 7 stellar new tracks, including features from the likes of Jerry Folk, Tkay Maidza, and Djemba Djemba.

The sound of the E.P. is a significant pivot for Hoodboi but is synonymous with the creative originality and forward-thinking production that brought him to prominence. The title track “Breathing Room” does an excellent job to encapsulate the vibe of the E.P. as a whole. It’s funky, vibrant, and electric from start to finish. Like many of the records on the E.P. it’s the kind of dance record that has the vibe and strength musically to stand on its own off of the dance floor, but also has the grit and sonic fortitude to blow minds in a proper club setting. Hoodboi’s “Breathing Room” E.P. is available now on all digital platforms courtesy of Fools Gold Records.
