Today’s Track of the Day comes to us from none other than the legendary duo Disclosure. In 2016 the two brothers Guy and Howard took a long break from touring and releasing new music to enjoy a much-deserved vacation from the spotlight. The duo broke their silence earlier this year with the release of a new single titled “Ultimatum.” Sampling the vocals of Fatoumata Diawara, and finding an unlikely common ground between jazz and acid house, “Ultimatum” became an instant summer classic. The track seemed like a one-off with no hints at future releases, leaving fans hungry for more.
This week Disclosure gave the fans what they’ve been begging for and dropped a new track every day to the elation of the dance music community at large, myself included. This slew of new tracks takes listeners on a journey through time, sampling classic artists from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, blending these timeless sounds with the cutting edge production and musicality that has always propelled Disclosure in their journey to the top of the dance music universe.
The latest of these releases “Funky Sensation” dropped early this morning and provides us with today’s Track of the Day selection. Keeping with the the theme of sampling artists from different time periods, The duo offers up their take on the Disco era heyday, reimagining Alkalino’s rework of Gwen McCrae’s classic record “Funky Sensation.” The track pushes the tempo and adds a modern vibe and energy, shaping the disco classic into a club-ready banger sure to be a scorcher on the dance floor throughout the final weeks of Summer.
This collection of new releases serves to give us an inspiring insight to the Lawrence brothers’ influences throughout the decades and proves that they are still at the top of their game despite the 2-year hiatus. There is one more song to look forward to, releasing tonight at midnight, but for now enjoy the groovy and soulful vibes of “Funky Sensation” and be sure to check out the rest of the new releases below.
