Track of the Day: Ascendants – Shadows
Today we have one from the Florida-based LAMP/PUZL Records mainstays Ascendants. This morning they self-released a new track called ‘Shadows’ and the best word I can think of to describe it is “deep”. The new single leads in with a soft kick and an echoing clap but quickly gives way to an airy synth chord that conjures images of a summer sky peppered with clouds. When the deep, droning bass note drops in the tone of track darkens a bit but still maintains that upbeat mood overall. A nice contrast. The highlight of the track is the chorus. When Brendan Grambow’s vocal track syncs up with the bassline and the arpeggiated synth run I couldn’t stop myself from bobbing my head. According to Shaan and Vijaya (Ascendants), Grambow’s vocal track was recorded in the basement of an old building on University of Pennsylvania’s campus due to repeated noise complaints from his neighbors leading to those beautiful and emotive vocals. Great tune! Bonus – they included a free download on the SoundCloud page!
Ascendants is a Miami-based DJ duo and production outfit comprised of Vijaya Seixas and Shaan Saigol. Vijaya and Shaan are no strangers to LAMP and PUZL Records having released their single ‘Timekeeper’ through PUZL Records earlier this year as well as contributing a spectacular mix to the Weekly Mix series. In addition to their own productions, Vijaya and Shaan also curated the longstanding weekly party Neon Liger at The Motor Room (previously known as Spannk) which saw appearances from some of the biggest names in electronic music including Odesza, MSTRKRFT, and Amtrac.
