Premiere: Nick Garcia – DivSeq [Lifted Contigency]
As we head into the weekend we have the pleasure of premiering an amazing new track for you from our new friend, Yoshitoshi label manager and incredibly talented DC-based producer Nick Garcia. Garcia’s forthcoming EP ‘Aalto’ is set for release on Friday 8/11 via Lifted Contingency.
‘DivSeq’ is a dark and meticulously produced techno track that showcases Garcia’s acumen and range as an artist. He calls it “Basic Channel on steroids”. The tune leads in with a deep and powerful kick and a heavily modulated 2-bar synth sequence that’s screaming for the inside of a warehouse. But that hi hat! When it drops in during the first verse it’s impossible to sit still. I tried. My favorite parts of ‘DivSeq’ are the bridges. Garcia introduces an ambient ring and an eerie sustained chord progression in the background that complement the melodic synth piece perfectly. At the end of the first bridge when everything drops out but the kick and the synth, the energy that had been rising since that hi hat first fell in suddenly recedes and there’s a quick moment where it sounds like a beating heart. Just you and the music. It was a super personal experience for me. Then the moment ends and the hi hat starts ratcheting the energy back up until it achieves a remarkably satisfying climax at around the 5-minute mark. Very, very cool track. 9/10 dentists recommend.
‘Aalto EP’ marks Garcia’s first release for Boston area label Lifted Contingency. Keep an eye out for the release next week, the rest of the EP is fire!
