Track of the Day: Jey Kurmis - Monkle

For the last few weeks one name in particular, Jey Kurmis, has been making my ears perk up. He is on a run of releases right now that contain some absolute top notch dance music. Our track of the day is 'Monkle' which Kurmis released as part of a 3 track EP for Hot Creations which includes a remix from Jamie Jones. 'Monkle' is one of those great tracks that can take you on a journey in seven minutes. A perfect arrangement that constantly keeps you on your toes. The rumbling kick and rounded out sub bump away throughout the track keeping it moving but what makes this track interesting is Kurmis use of percussion and how he is always switching up the groove on us. A funky little kazoo stab that sounds like it was sampled from the 80's arcade game Q-bert bouncing around, coupled with vocal track that I feel like I can understand but know that I cant, make the track extremely fun to listen to and dissect. When Patrick Topping who I have the utmost respect for as a producer comes along and says "When it comes to producing Jey Kurmis and wAFF are my idols" you pretty much have to take notice. Jey Kurmis who hails from Leeds has been at the game for the better part of ten years now. The last few years have seen his stock rise to massive heights. Gaining support from basically every label I have been listening to the last 3 months (give or take a few obviously). His recent releases include Hot Creations, Moon Harbour, and Lost records with more on the way soon. His productions are extremely refreshing. It is standard dance music but that's not really fair at the end of the day because what he produces is on such another level from what I typically hear. His tracks are very dynamic and tend not to stick to any sort of mold. Constantly changing and keeping the listener interested and on their toes. Enjoy and check out more of his tracks below and on SoundCloud. If you have yet to check out our guest mix this week from GAL hit that play button down below and let her take you down the rabbit hole.
