Track of the Day: Greco - Free VIP

grecoWe've been thoroughly enjoying Sleepy Cat's mix this week and selecting tracks to review from it were difficult because there were so many quality ones to choose from. I decided to go with this tune from Greco because I've been wanting to highlight and bring to light what this talented producer has been able to achieve over such a short period of time.

Greco - Free VIP

Stuttering snare hits combine with a punchy kick and tight clap combo while an echoing vocal stab staggers and chops between the downbeats. The vocal stem is actually from Greco's studio partner Sarina-free, who collaborated on the original version of this tune last year. A subdued, staccato bassline provides a simple and effect groove to the track. Its analog character provides a cool blend between the more jackin style beats while a more traditional filtered synth lead rides the mid range frequencies helping to move the track along between the main transitions. Percussion is such a crucial component to this style of house and adding just the right mount of swing to certain elements of it provides a dynamic feel to the over all mix. Compositionally the track stripped down and Greco really hones in and focuses on the essential components that give this tracks a superb dance floor vibe.Having recently started a conversation with Greco online I've come to learn quite a bit about this New York based producer and DJ. He shares similar Floridian roots to your truly, and has similar affinity to the east coast style and way of life that I was once accustomed to. Greco has certainly made his mark within the underground house scene with a host of releases on prominent labels like Nurvous, Simma Black, Love & Other, and one of my favorite crews Chief Recordings (they are definitely ones to watch!). On top of receiving well deserved attention and recognition from his peers Greco has also gone on to found his own imprint Spira which I feautred in my last mix and I will certainly be playing out more next year during our shows. Low Steppa is a big fan and supporter of his music which only further solidifies my opinions and expectations for this talented dude. All I can say for now is watch this space and stay on top of Greco because he is definitely going to makes some heads turn in 2016.To get an idea of just how productive Greco has been this year have a run through his 2015 catalog below:If you haven't had a chance to listen to Sleepy Cat's mix yet, load this into your New Years Eve pregame playlist:Enjoy,MR PUZL
