Track of the Day: Christian Hornbostel - Assertive Transition

One of the relatively newer labels I have started following that has been pumping out some great music is Metodi Hristov's Set About Records. I really enjoyed the recent release "Detroit" by Gallya and this latest by Christian Hornbostel is absolutely incredible. Usually I am happy if One original and One remix are pretty solid from an EP. Each one of these is an absolute gem with some excellent remix credentials behind both Hristov and a long time favorite for me Citizen Kain. I thought for sure I would be siding with Kain's remix of "Aspect Ration" which is wonderful, but as I listened through the EP it became obvious to me the Original title track is just such an absolute beast. I made a quick snap decision that "Assertive Transitions" would be our track of the day. A warm and punchy kick accentuates a lively groove that really drives the track. As the groove chugs away like a freight train Hornbostel starts to introduce some really grungy synths oscillating as they wind up and down the scale. Eventually they start to sound like chords before getting super wonky and building into a smack you in the face bass drop. Topping it off for me are the myriad of percs and little stabs he sneaks into the mix. It really adds a lot of dynamic to the track keepin g it rolling along. The simplicity of everything is mind boggling when you break it down. He makes great use of variating his drum patterns while keeping us hooked with those wonky synths. A real testament to the producer and the arrangement. As I said this whole EP is a fricking gem so I have posted down below for you to check out as well. Enjoy.
