Track of the Day: Just Hear - Worm

As we head into this final, action-packed stretch of the year I thought I would choose a track that was a little more upbeat and full of energy. I wound up landing on ‘Worm’ from Just Hear’s newest ‘Protest EP’, out now on the St. Louis based Tulipa Records. ‘Worm’ is an interesting tech house track with a healthy dose of that circus whimsy that I love so much. A fun, almost progressive tune that really sneaks up on you, 'Worm' is a perfect example of what Just Hear is capable of. While the first verse features a range of chimes and other high pitched tones the segue into the breakdown highlights a beautiful droning bass. Also known as DJ Ri Za, Zagiba’s sound is broad and polished. While Zagiba’s work under the name Ri Za tends toward more of a progressive house feel the sound we get from Just Hear skews more to a hypnotic tech house. But we are splitting hairs here. Regardless of how you want to classify his sound the thing about Zagiba is that in addition to being a DJ and producer he moonlights as professional mastering and mixing engineer. It shows in the production value of his music. Everything sounds tight and clearly defined. The basses are deeper and the highs hit just right. As a producer Zagiba has found support from big names in the industry including John Digweed and Hernan Cattaneo.
