JAËL’s production and instrumentation is tasteful and elegant throughout, and provides the perfect backdrop for his and SUMIN’s hypnotizing vocal performances. “Lonely” serves as a prime introduction to JAËL’s rich and soulful sound, and provides proof that this budding new artist is ready for the world stage. Stream and download "Lonely" here, and keep an eye out for JAËL's debut EP “Time” dropping October 12th on Studio KOTO. Until then check out JAËL's exclusive interview with our very own Damon Steele below.Damon Steele: Your debut single “Lonely” features an unlikely collaboration with Korean artist SUMIN, how did that collaboration materializeJAËL: A friend of mine, Fallens (DJ), from Seoul, South Korea, introduced me to this amazing singer and producer named SUMIN. He sent some of her songs and i was immediately blown away! I was begging him to ask her to collaborate with me, and so he did ask, and so we did collaborate!DS: “Lonely” has somewhat of retro R&B vibe to it, can you tell us a little bit about the songs or artists that influenced this track?J: Well, at first, this instrumental was just drums and bass. After i've added an acapella on this instrumental which was Jarreau Vandal's "Someone That You Love" Feat. Olivia Nelson, i felt like it was too smooth to give it away for a remix of a track. So i instantly thought about SUMIN's voice on this instrumental. I've sent it to her and she KILLED it. The chords and leads you hear on SUMIN's verse and chorus? THAT'S HER AS WELL! Amazing talent.DS: You dropped a visual alongside the single, can you tell us a little about the video and what it was like to film it?My lovely manager as i call "Mama Rana" told me to do a video shoot for our first single. At first i was super nervous to shoot it, but on the shooting day, i wasn't that nervous anymore lol. It was a fun experience! A big shout out to Koo and Rich for Directing and shooting the video's!DS: Can you tell us a little bit about what we can expect from the other tracks on your new EP “Time?”J: You can expect a cocktail of R&B, Future Beats, Soul, Hip Hop and Electronic. This project is really Experimental and I've really mixed all of my favorite genres into one 4-track EP. I hope ya'll like it!DS: As I understand it, these are some of the your first releases in which you are featuring your own vocals. What was it like to make the transition from producer and DJ to recording artist?J: Before i have considered to do a project with my own vocals, i was super insecure. I didn't know how to sound like myself, how to express my voice and even tried to sound like certain artists. After a long time of making music in my bedroom, i felt more confident about being a recording artist. Everyday i played instruments such as guitar, bass, keys, drums and practiced singing all day long. I have gotten to a point where i thought, "This is what i wanna do forever". So i worked harder and it got me to where i am now.DS: I understand you’ve been doing some touring in Europe and Asia. Can you tell me a little bit about any exciting shows you’ve played or have coming up?J: This year has been so crazy! I am blessed with two Asia tours, one Europe tour and many more shows! I even have performed the track "Lonely (고독한)" live Feat. SUMIN at The Henz Club in Seoul, South Korea! I was nervous as hell but it was an amazing experience! My most favorite show was at SOAP in Seoul. I've never felt so loved by such a great crowd! Everybody was screaming and shouting! I will never forget that night alongside Sam Tiba, Wantigga, Fallens and Ugly Duck. I have upcoming shows in Germany, Belgium and i will make my debut in South Africa! And i'm heading back to Asia soon! i hardly can wait to travel, play shows, make new music with great views, eat some great foods and meet new amazing people!DS: We’re big fans of your performances on the Red Bull Music Uncut series, do you have any plans to bring a live performance like that to the stage?J: Off course i will! At the moment, i'm trying to get together a JAEL LIVE show to perform, starting in 2019! I'm going to do my very best to give my 100% and show you what i'm all about.
