Track of the Day feat. Maceo Plex, Quantic and Su Conjunto Los Miticos Del Ritmo

LAMP-trackoftheday-jeffdevoeSo these two tracks I’ve been wanting to review all week because they are my two favorite tracks on my new mix. Well, actually one of these is THE favorite on the mix, and the other is 3rd favorite to another tune that I’m not gonna review cause I want to leave something as a surprise! The two tracks for today are #drumroll: GusGus – Crossfade (Maceo Plex Remix) and Quantic & Su Conjunto Los Miticos Del Ritmo – Step Into A World.

GusGus – Crossfade (Maceo Plex Remix)

Track of the year for me. Seriously, this track is so heavy it’s gravitational pull would destroy 20 black holes. We have about 4 months left in 2014 and I feel like I can guarantee nobody is going to make a track to beat this one. Anyway, let me pull my lips off it’s butt and tell you about it. This beast starts off with a breakbeat style drum beat with an ENORMOUS kick. It’s unfair how big the kick is. They had to make a new fighting class in boxing because this kick exists, ultra heavyweight. The drums pound it out for a bit, then the hook of the song comes in at the perfect time. “Do you remember the days, when we started to crossfade, our melodies made, harmonious soundscapes.” Gorgeous lyrics. GusGus killed it. All the while a trumpet style synth pulses in the background warning of the face melting you are about to experience. The kick pulls out, trumpet thing stays pulsing, the vocals are going, then….you die. The kick comes back in, but the vocals are replaced with the most dirtiest, ripping square wave sound you’ve ever heard. Just killer. Every time I hear that I utter something unintelligible. The main breakdown after this has the trumpet synth doing a solo turn. The sound is melancholy and heart wrenching. Makes you think about your life and whether you’ve done a good job with it. Those who feel a true sense of self worth are allowed to pass. Good job GusGus and good job Maceo Plex. I now know that I was sent here to hear your collaboration.

Quantic & Su Conjunto Los Miticos Del Ritmo – Step Into A World

Quantic did an EP called Hip Hop en Cumbia. This cover of KRS One’s Step Into A World really turned my head the first time I heard it. It’s a straight up cumbia band covering Step Into A World. Super sweet. The accordion handles the melody, and all is well with the world. Check out the rest of that EP. It’s got Nuthin’ But a G Thang on it dude. It’s pretty amazing…Jeff Devoe
